Biography

John Underwood started his professional sales career with Motorola, Inc. 25 years ago selling 2 way communication systems. He received some of the finest sales training both at a corporate level as well as one-on-one training and as a result, quickly rose to join the ranks of the 5 Top Sales Producers in the United States.

After Motorola, Inc. Mr. Underwood joined Centel Cellular, Inc. as a sales representative in the Cellular Telephone industry. There, again, he quickly rose to the top of the performance ladder. In 1989, he decided to venture out into the world of professional sales and sales management training by introducing The S.O.S. (Science of Success) Seminar Series. As his business expanded over the years, he incorporated all of his corporate sales training and consulting practice under SellingEdge, Inc., a company he has been running for over 14 years.

As a consultant, trainer and keynote speaker, Mr. Underwood has helped thousands of sales professionals increase both their understanding of the psychology of selling as well as their personal sales performance. Mr. Underwood has increased the sales productivity of his corporate clients, some by as much as 60%+ per year for 3 consecutive years.

Today, Mr. Underwood continues to frequently teaches to organizations across the United States, working with sales, sales management and manufacturing groups. He is also a member of the Executives in Residence Program at the University of Arizona in Tucson. There he speaks to students on sales and sales management issues.

John is also the author of the book "Scratch Selling: 18 Lessons Golf Will Teach You About Sales" and in his free time, he pursues his passion for golf and sport-fishing in Mexico.

First Five fees are available for the first five days booked in a given month, a minimum of 6 months in advance.
Short-Range fees are available to clients who make use of days remaining within a 45-day window.
Non-Profit fees are always available to qualified charitable organizations.
Tucson fees are available for engagements within a 1-hour driving radius of the area.
Standard fees apply to all other engagements.
Participant Materials fees apply to all engagements.
Consulting Fee Schedule

As consultants, we sell our time. With our time comes all of the knowledge, skill and experience we’ve gained -- focused on whatever you need. Different clients have different needs – and different needs require different relationships. With that in mind, here are the guidelines:

A Standard Contract features a reducing rate as hours accumulate over the course of the entire relationship:

The initial 10 hours are paid in advance. Additional hours are billed as they are used, with a 2 hour minimum session. Terms are Net 10 Days. Travel expenses are the responsibility of the client.
A Retained Contract reserves an agreed upon number of hours to work on a client’s projects each month. The hourly rate is determined by the number of hours reserved for a given month:
10-24 hours $250/hr 25-50 hours $200/hr
All Retained Contracts begin on the 1st of the month. Minimum reservation is 10 hours per month -- maximum is 50. 2 hour minimum session. The retained rate only applies to the number of hours reserved. Retainers are paid in advance. Unused hours are forfeited. Hours in excess of those reserved are billable at the full Standard Contract rate in effect at the time the overage occurs. Overtime hours are billed separately – terms are Net 10 Days. Travel expenses are the responsibility of the client. One month written notice is required to cancel a retained relationship.
